Voices of the deep tides — the octopus people who guide Vaeloria's seas with wisdom and wonder.
The Cephlayn are the octopus people of Mythica — a race descended from deep-water origins who can breathe both water and air, walk on land (though more slowly than their aquatic movement), and perceive the world through senses that land-dwellers barely understand. Their society is organized into Three Nations: the Upper, Mid, and Deep, each reflecting a different relationship with the sea and with the light that filters through it. The deeper the nation, the more powerful and secretive its traditions become.
Spiritual, harmonious, and rigorously logical, Cephlayn society is guided by a convergence of healers, scholars, and ritual caretakers of the sea. They do not prize military strength or expansion — their power lies in knowledge, in the deep patience of tidal cycles, and in a relationship with Water and Light magic so refined that their healers can perform feats that seem miraculous to other races. The bioluminescent coral cities of the Mid Nation are among the most architecturally extraordinary structures anywhere on the Vaelorian continent.
Bottle summoning is the most common bonding method in the deep regions of Cephlayn society, where water-channel magic concentrates in the ocean trenches. A specially prepared container — sealed, attuned with Water magic, and opened at the exact moment of resonance — can call a bonded creature across vast distances. Surface-dwelling Cephlayn sometimes adapt the technique using hollowed shells or enchanted glass vessels.
