Raiju are wild, beautiful creatures — foxes and wolves adorned with streaming wisps of sky magic, their fur crackling with static energy and their eyes glowing with an inner blue-white light. They move like the wind given shape, leaving faint afterimages and the faint scent of ozone wherever they pass.

What makes the Raiju truly remarkable is their ability to perform what Vaelorian scholars call an "air step" — a bound that pushes off the sky itself, allowing them to leap again while airborne. In open terrain, an experienced Raiju can cross extraordinary distances with a series of these sky-jumps, effectively bounding through the air as if invisible platforms existed to catch each leap.

Ancient texts describe Raiju as the living breath of storms — creatures born from the moment lightning first struck the earth. In communities near the great storm cliffs of eastern Vaeloria, a Raiju passing overhead is considered an omen of charged weather, change, and possibility in equal measure. They are notoriously difficult to form bonds with, but those who manage it gain a companion of extraordinary speed and loyalty.
